i guess it really comes down to how you define "rock n roll." looking at the list of past inductees, i can find at least a few who i wouldn't call "rock n roll artists" if you asked me. i think at least for the sake of the hall of fame, "rock n roll" has become more synonymous with music in general, meaning to get into the hall means you've been accepted as a credible and influential person/group in the world of music. i'm not particular happy about this explanation (cause then what's the point of calling it "rock n roll?") but i just think that's what has happened.
at least run dmc actually did a collaboration with a rock band...
